Jo Ann Bernthal, 70, of Leesburg, Ind., passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Mason’s Healthcare & Rehab in Warsaw, Ind.
She was born on Jan. 23, 1944, in Detroit, Mich., to Edward P. and Suzanna (Candell) Fielding. She grew up in Michigan, graduated from Edison Ford High School in Detroit, and was an Army veteran. On July 12, 1988, in Carmel, Calif., she married Robert Max ‘Bob’ Bernthal, who survives.
She formerly worked at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, Calif., as a secretary and at a medical clinic in Lake Havasu, Ariz. She lived many places throughout her life and for 8 years in Arizona before moving to the Leesburg/North Webster, Ind., area in 2006. She formerly attended the Lutheran Church in Arkansas.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters: Dawn (Shannon) Crites, Leesburg; Mareen Walker, Nashville, Tenn.; step-daughter: Marci (Dan) Cardoza, Springfield Mo.; granddaughter: Shayleen; one granddaughter; one step-grandchild and one step-great-grandchildren; sister: Pat (Jerry) Gourley, Michigan; and brother: Robert (Pat) Fielding, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
There will be no public services. Private family services will be held at a later date.
Memorial bequest may be given to Donor’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
