SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko girls basketball team finished out Three Rivers Conference play in impressive fashion Friday night.
The host Wildcats used a fine finish to rally past Northfield 50-46 in their league finale.
Whitko outscored the visitors 15-8 in the final frame to erase a four-point deficit.
The Wildcats improve to 13-6 overall and finish tied for second in the the TRC at 5-2. The 13 wins are tied for the third most in program history and the second place league finish is the team’s best since winning the conference title during the 2007-08 season.
Brianna Cumberland led a balanced offensive attack as the Wildcats continued to be tough to beat at home. Cumberland netted 15 points as Whitko moved to 7-1 this season on the home hardwood.
Jennifer Reiff turned in a strong effort with 14 points and Aly Reiff added 10 for the Wildcats. Kelly Reiff had six points and senior Jordan Hall contributed five.
Northfield finishes its regular season at 11-7 overall and 3-4 in the TRC.
Whitko hosts Adams Central Saturday afternoon in its regular-season finale. The Wildcats will honor their seniors.
Whitko will then face West Noble on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in the opening game of the Class 3-A NorthWood Sectional.
