Concord Edges Wawasee In OT
DUNLAP – Needing overtime, Concord was one possession better than Wawasee, 37-34, in Northern Lakes Conference girls basketball Saturday afternoon.
A big fourth quarter by Concord, which scored 16 points, had Michelle Detwiler score seven of her team-high 13 points. Keaonna Clopton added six points, but both came on three-point baskets, one in the fourth quarter and another in overtime. MacKenzie Rutter added 11 points for the Lady Minutemen, which moved to 7-10 overall and 2-4 in the NLC with the win.
Wawasee, which had a nine-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, seemed to run out of gas with just six players active on the varsity roster. Kylee Rostochak scored 10 of her game-high 14 points in the second half. The Lady Warriors, however, had just one other player score a point in the final three quarters, a basket by Katlyn Kennedy in the fourth quarter.
Hurting Wawasee’s cause was just a 7-17 showing from the free throw line.
The Lady Warriors fall to 2-14 overall and 1-4 in the NLC with the loss.
The Concord JV doubled up Wawasee, 32-16, in the Saturday matinee.
Wawasee will entertain Bremen Monday in Syracuse while Concord will look forward to a game at South Bend Adams Tuesday evening.
