R. Lowell Yohe, 89, North Manchester, Ind., passed away at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
He was born April 2, 1924, the oldest of one brother and one sister to Herbert and Frances (Kress) Yohe. In 1942, he graduated from high school in Monroe Township, Ohio, and went to Ohio State for 1 and a half years before being drafted in WWII. He was in Civilian Public Service for 3 years. On June 8, 1947, he married Martha L. Stinebaugh.
His parents were farmers and that is what Lowell always wanted to do. He had a passion for farming and owned and operated a farm in the South Whitley, Ind., area for 34 years. Lowell established a commodities business in Warsaw, Ind., and eventually they moved to Warsaw and went into that business full-time until his retirement. He went on a People to People tour with other farmers to Europe where they were in seven different countries. Lowell was on the board of Black Lake Lodge, a farm where boys with special problems came from Fort Wayne, Ind., to learn about living together and farming. He received special recognition for 22 years in that work. He and Martha moved to Timbercrest in 1993. He enjoyed spending time at his computer and watching baseball and basketball on TV. He was a Ham Radio Operator since 1962, a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester, Ind., and a member of American Radio Relay League.
He is survived by his wife; two sons: Richard Yohe, South Whitley; and Pat (Faye) Yohe, Ottawa, Ohio; one daughter: Rebecca Brock, Fort Wayne; one sister: Yula Jean Hillis, Arcanum, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother: Wendel Yohe; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday Feb. 9, at the chapel. Pastor Karen Eberly will officiate. Burial will be at Manchester Church of the Brethren Memorial Garden, North Manchester. McKee Mortuary is handling all arrangements.
