Willis D. Hochstetler, 84, of Nappanee, Ind., passed away at 6:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, at his residence. He had been in ill health for 3 years.
Willis was born Sept. 27, 1929, in Bremen, Ind., to Daniel H. and Lovina Hochstetler. He lived his lifetime in this area.
Mr. Hochstetler was a member of the Old Order Amish Church and was ordained a minister on May 8, 1971. He was a farmer and a woodworker.
Willis married Sarah Ann Hochstetler on Feb. 7, 1952. She survives.
He is also survived by sons: Vernon (Gwen) Hochstetler, Plymouth, Ind.; Marvin (Cathy) Hochstetler, Willis Jr. (Jane) Hochstetler and Aden (Amanda) Hochstetler, all of Nappanee; Gerald (Anita) Hochstetler, Goshen, Ind.; Leander Hochstetler, Perry Hochstetler and Homer (Jolene) Hochstetler, all of Bremen, Ind.; Wyman (Edna) Hochstetler, Wakarusa, Ind.; daughters: Judy (Lester) Yoder, Middlebury, Ind.; Amanda (Perry) Hershberger, Mio, Mich.; Dorothy (Willie) Hochstetler, Lora (Andy) Beachy and Miriam (Lamar) Kauffman, all of Nappanee; Minerva (Glen) Knepp, Topeka, Ind.; Edith (Gilbert) Schrock, New Paris, Ind.; Cora (Emery) Miller, Milford, Ind.; 70 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; three step great-grandchildren; brothers: Monroe (Lena) Hochstetler, Belle Center, Ohio; Leroy (Malinda) Hochstetler, Bremen, Ind.; Gerald (Ruth Ann) Hochstetler, Marion, Mich.; sisters: Anna Mae Burkholder and Linda (Raymond) Slabaugh, both of Nappanee; Esther (Melvin) Hochstetler, Ava, Ill.;
He was preceded in death by a son: Ernest Hochstetler; a daughter: Anna Mae Hochstetler; brothers: Harley and David Lee Hochstetler; brother-in-law: Alvin Burkholder; and sister-in-law: Mary Hochstetler.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, and continue all day Wednesday, June 4, at the family residence. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5, also at the family residence. Bishop John Troyer and the Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate. Burial will be in Borkholder Cemetery. Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
