Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officers who investigated an incident involving a woman being run over by a car Wednesday afternoon south of Warsaw, say it was an accident.
Tracy Prater, 39, was outside her home in the driveway when she said she slipped on ice and fell to the ground. Prater and Benjamin D. Irvine, 37, who also resides at the residence at 2275 S. Lake Sharon Rd., had reportedly been in an argument and Irvine was going to leave the home.
Irvine said he was distracted by a child, who was standing at the front of the vehicle and did not realize Prater had fallen when he began to back out of the driveway and ran over her. Prater was interviewed by investigators and repeatedly said it was accidental.
Prater was trapped underneath the vehicle until she was freed by firefighters of the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory. She was then airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital and is reported to be in ICU with internal injuries and numerous broken bones.
The accident happened at about 5 p.m.
Also assisting on scene was Multi-Township EMS, Winona Lake Fire Department and Winona Lake Police.
