The Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball mentor coached in his 1,000th career high school game Tuesday night.

Tanner Andrews made sure that Patrick was going to win that milestone contest too.

Andrews dominated with a nearly perfect performance in leading the Vikings to a convincing 71-49 win at Northfield in Three Rivers Conference play.

Senior standout Andrews hit 11-12 shots from the field to score a game-high 24 points. The talented forward also had eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals and four blocked shots in a magnificent all-around effort.

Valley, which improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the TRC with its third straight win, shot a blistering 32-38 from the field as a team in the rout. The Vikings led the hosts 18-5 after the opening period.

Patrick, the longtime coach at Whitko High School, is now 720-280 in his 45th season. The Indiana Basketball Hall of Famer is fourth all-time in career coaching wins among boys coaches and ranks second among active coaches. Patrick is now 242-100 in his 16th season at Valley.

Chainey Zolman scored 19 points and Logan Britton had eight for Valley in Tuesday night’s win.

Northfield, coached by Moe Smedley, drops to 2-8 overall and 2-2 in league play with its third straight loss.

Valley won the junior varsity contest by a 44-38 final. Alec Craig led the Vikings with 11 points.

The Vikings host TRC foe Rochester Friday night.
