William E. “Bill” Goshert, 86, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.
He was born May 19, 1927, in Mentone, Ind., to Ronald Andy Goshert and Ruth (Burt) Goshert. He was a 1945 graduate of Warsaw Community High School and earned a Master’s Degree in education from North Manchester University.
Bill served in the United States Navy as a Baker 3c and was honorably discharged on July 23, 1946. On Nov. 3, 1946, in Richmond, Ind., he married Delores “Dede” Hume.
A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Ind., he worked for Warsaw Community Schools for 40 years, retiring in 1987 as teacher, football coach and business manager. He coached high school football for Portland from 1955 to 1957, Warsaw to 1957 to 1965, and Northside at 1965 to 1969.
Bill helped start coaching of Warsaw Pee Wee Football; and was a member of Fort Wayne Masonic Lodge, Retired Teachers Association of Indiana, Rosella Golf Course and Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church where he was active in church organizations. His hobbies were golf, watching all sports and going to see his grandkids events. Coaching was his passion, along with working with youth.
He is survived by his wife: Delores “Dede” Goshert, Warsaw; two daughters: Ann (Taylor) Seward, Warsaw; and Sherry (Charlie) Stultz, South Bend, Ind.; a son: Rocky (Joy) Goshert, Warsaw; seven grandchildren: Brody (Katie) Shively, Plymouth, Ind.; Cale (Cindy) Shively, Noblesville, Ind.; Jeff (Allyson) Stultz, Hilliard, Ohio; Brian ( Kelly) Stultz, South Bend, Ind.; Cody Goshert, Warsaw; Taylor Goshert, Warsaw; Drake Klopfenstein, Warsaw; nine great-grandchildren; a sister: Martha Houser, Fort Wayne, Ind.; an uncle: Jim (Liola) Goshert, Mentone, Ind.; a nephew: Gary (Cindy) Goshert, Ligonier, Ind.; and a niece: Vonnie Miller, Asheville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his father: Ronald Andy Goshert; his mother: Ruth Goshert; and a brother: Lewis Goshert.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, in the funeral home and officiated by Lee Harman, lay leader of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
