2519132Charles Geiger, 82, of Cromwell, Ind., passed away at 7:02 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 1, 1931, to Adrian and Mary (Birch) Geiger in Noble County, Ind. On June 4, 1949, he married Catherine “Pat” Iden. She survives.

He graduated from Cromwell High School in 1949 and was a lifetime area resident. He had worked as a farmer and avid gardener, and was employed by Juday Electric and Dell Zarse electric. He then formed Geiger Electric and was owner and operator of his own business.

He drove school bus for West Noble School Corporation for a total 46 years. He played fast pitch softball for many years in multiple leagues in Fort Wayne as a pitcher and outstanding hitter often times being labeled as a professional ball player. He participated in many World Fast Pitch Softball tournaments. He enjoyed his family and loved helping others. Charles had a passion for physical fitness.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters: Vicki (Rodger) Brown, Syracuse, Ind.; Trudy (Duane) Fetters, Kimmell, Ind.; and Kim (Herb) Pattison, Fort Wayne, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother: Hugh (Kay) Geiger, Columbia City, Ind.; one sister-in-law: Bonita Geiger, North Webster, Ind; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: JD Geiger.

Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, May 12, at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier. Visitation will also be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the funeral home. The funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Chaplain Kurt Snyder of Whitley County Hospice Care officiating. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell, Ind.
