Adam Arnette | MemoriaìvVݶJoAdam Arnett, 78, of Akron, Ind., and formerly of rural Roann, Ind., passed away at 10:05 p.m. Friday May 2, 2014, at his residence after being in failing healthy for several months.

He was born on Nov. 15, 1935, in Floyd County, Ky., to Henry and Sally (Shepherd) Arnett. On Oct. 11, 1958, in Prestonsburg, Ky., he was married to Maria Lynn Johnson. She survives.

He was a coal miner and a farmer. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Association. He enjoyed NASCAR and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Jr. When his health allowed he also enjoyed hunting and all the yard work.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters: Sandra Kay (Monroe) Stephen, Prestonburg;  Teresa (Earl) Martin, McDowell, Ky.; Rita Grow, Syracuse, Ind.; Sally Shepherd, Mentone, Ind.; six sons: Ell (Sharon) Arnett, Claypool, Ind.; Adam Arnett Jr., Akron; Jeff Arnett;
Michael (Marqueta) Arnett, Silver Lake, Ind.; James Thomas Arnett, Akron; Daniel Arnett, Silver Lake, Ind.; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother: Henry Jr. (Opal) Arnett, Silver Lake, Ind.; four sisters: Goldie (Truman) Griffeth, David, Ky.; Barb (William Joe) Ousley, Noblesville, Ind.; Janice (Don) Prater, David; and Opal (JR) Bates, Prestonburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents a daughter: Maria Arnett; grandchildren: Adam OC Shepherd and Sally Kay Shepherd; two sisters: Anna May Ousley and Osie Pitts; and brothers: Johnny, Rube and Tom Arnett.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at the funeral home. Pastor Lauren Bradley and Pastor Luther Bailey will officiate. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
