On December 10, 1933 in Peru, Harley was born, the treasured son of Clyde Okey and Elizabeth M. Fraker Vigar. Growing up as one of seven children he shared his childhood with 3 sisters: Mildred, Lucy and Edith, and 3 brothers: Orville, Harry and Russell. Harley was a member of the Rochester High School class of 1952. Patriotism beckoned him and Harley answered the called, serving our country as a member of the US Army.

On August 16, 1969 in Chicago, Harley married Lorette S. “Shorty” Land. Together they shared nearly 39 years of life’s adventures. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2008.

In the early years Harley and daughter Terie tended to the family farming operation, annually planting soybeans and corn over their 34.5 acres. Together they plowed and planted each spring. Harley was always happy to be on board his International, cultivating after the planting. Each autumn they picked the bountiful harvest.

A truck driving professional, Harley drove well over three million miles with no lost time earning numerous safety awards. He loved the open road, while cruising along in his baby blue Kenworth with on time delivery. He began driving for N.S.K., continuing for over 26 years, then drove for Ryder Trucking, retiring at the age of 71.

Harley attended the Athens United Methodist Church for over five years. He was also a member of the American Legion at Bourbon. Harley loved heading out to farm auctions in search of special bargains or farm equipment and he rarely missed one in our area during his time of good health. Many good times were spent at Blue Chip. You could always find Harley near the penny slots.

As the patriarch of the Vigar family, Harley was proud to oversee five generations. Paramount in his life were his children and grandchildren. Harley cherished the time he spent with his extended family during the holidays, birthday celebrations and special occasions.

Left to cherish Harley’s memory are six daughters: Maria Yoder and husband Wilbur of Topeka, LuAnn Davis and husband Melvin of La Grange, KY, Terie Holloway and husband Richard K. of Rochester, Angie Chapman of Stuttgart, Arkansas, Susan Ingram and husband Larry of Taylor, SC, Tina Vigar; a son Glen H. Preceeding him in death are his parents, wife, and siblings Orville Vigar, Harry Vigar, Russell Vigar, Lucy Smith and Edith Orput.

Pastor Michael McFarland will officiate services. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army Honors Team and the Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard at the Tippecanoe Cemetery, Tippecanoe.
