Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Hochstetler, 94, formerly of Nappanee, Ind., passed away at 5 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Cardinal Center in South Bend, Ind. She had moved to Cardinal Center 6 weeks ago from Hubbard Hill Retirement Home.
She was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Michigan to Harvey and Lovina Kauffman. Elizabeth moved to Nappanee from Illinois when she was 21 and had lived there most of her life. She was married to William Hochstetler in August 1941. He preceded her in death.
She was a housewife and a member of First Mennonite Church. She had also been a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Elizabeth enjoyed needlepoint and quilting, also playing board games, cards and bingo.
Surviving are her sons: Paul William (Helen) Hochstetler, South Bend, Ind.; Charles Alan (Leann) Hochstetler, Mission, Kansas; Roger Eugene (Sidney) Hochstetler, Ballwin, Mo.; a grandson: Blake Hochstetler, South Bend, Ind.; great-grandchildren: Paul Bradley and Emma Katherine Hochstetler; and a number of step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son: Robert Hochstetler in 1945; sisters: Laura Miller, Katie Eichor, Mattie Pothoff; and brother: Eddie Kauffman.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at First Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at First Mennonite Church. Reverend Janet McFall-Brown will officiate and burial will be in South Union Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Mennonite Church.
