William “Duane” Rogers, 53, of Claypool, Ind., passed away at 8:12 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, in his home after battling cancer for a short period of time.
He was born Aug. 28, 1960, in Rochester, Ind., to William Lloyal Rogers and Dorothy Marie (Thompson) Rogers. He was a 1979 graduate of Warsaw Community High School where he was a member of FFA.
He lived in Irvington, Ky., and had lived in rural Rochester, Ind.; Rosebush, Mich.; and Monte Vista, Colo. He was raised on the family farm in Claypool where he enjoyed raising steers and pigs. He was a carpenter and farmer and most recently worked for Yoder-Miller Carpentry in Irvington.
Duane was a devout Christian, a member of the Packerton United Methodist Church in his youth and was a compassionate and caring person with many friends. He loved raising his registered Belgian horses and his Great Pyrenees dog, Mable, and enjoyed traveling with his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother and step father: Dorothy and Dan Willis, Claypool; a brother: Dan (Beth) Willis, Terre Haute, Ind.; seven sisters: Sharissa (Hugh) Hazeltine, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Shawnita Steffen, Goshen, Ind.; Susie Dussart, Albuquerque, N.M.; Shartrina (Matt) White, Cape Haze, Fla.; Amy (Tracy) Furnivall, Warsaw, Ind.; Sheila (Rich) Groninger, Warsaw; Shanna (Bruce) Halas, Chicago, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father: William Lloyal Rogers; his maternal grandmother: Lois Thompson Scherer; his maternal grandfather: Loren Joseph Thompson; his paternal grandmother: Elizabeth Marie Rogers; and his paternal grandfather: Maurice Sheldon Rogers.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. The funeral will follow at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor William Wood of Packerton United Methodist Church, Pastor Jeff Pfeifer of Warsaw Community Church and Pastor Dr. Dan Willis of Hulman Street Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.
