Jimmie “Jim” Wolfrum, 82, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw.
He was born Aug. 26, 1931, in Carey, Ohio, to George Wolfrum and Donna (McClain) Wolfrum. On Feb. 28, 1953, he was married to Dorothy Lee (Cox) Wolfrum, who survives in Warsaw.
He graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in Ohio in 1949. He was a star football player and track hurdler earning the name “Blaze” because he was so fast he burned up the track. After high school, Jim joined the U.S. Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Princeton during the Korean War.
He was a resident of Kosciusko County, Ind., for the past 39 years where he worked as an engineer for Sprint for 37 years, retiring in 1990. While living in Ohio, Jim was active as a volunteer fireman, a town councilman, member of the Ohio State Patrol Auxiliary, Toast Masters and in the American Legion.
In 1975 he and his family moved to Warsaw where he volunteered on the Sprint CR Team; was an avid Warsaw Tigers football and track fan, as well as a long time swimmer at the YMCA.
Jim is survived by his wife: Dorothy Wolfrum, Warsaw; two daughters: Sybil (William) Burskey, Lucas, Ohio; Cynthia (Bruce) Coppes, Warsaw; four grandchildren: Cynthia (Greg) Meyer, Lebanon, Ohio; Erin (Jason) Mudra, Mansfield, Ohio; Emma Coppes, Warsaw; Jeremy Coppes, Warsaw; three great-grandchildren: Claire and Charlotte Mudra; and Owen Meyer; three sisters: Joan Sanders, Marion, Ohio; Carol Sue Winroth, Marion, Ohio; Pat Fitzpatric, Findlay, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; and his special neighbors: Terry and Mary Armstrong, Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Roger Wolfrum; and two sisters: Margie Hehr and Jean Iles.
Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Rd., Warsaw. His funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home and officiated by Brad Brail. A private burial will take place Friday, April 18, at Little Sandusky Cemetery in Little Sandusky, Ohio.
