Darlton Lee Sommers, 82, of New Paris, Ind., passed away unexpectedly at 11:04 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at his residence.
He was born June 8, 1931, in Kokomo, Ind., to Noah and Esther (Strebin ) Sommers. On Sept. 16, 1950, he married Martha Bontrager in Kokomo.
Mr. Sommers moved to New Paris in 1958 from Kokomo. He was a retired Dairy Farmer. He was a member of Living Gospel Church in Nappanee.
Darlton is survived by his wife; sons: Dale (Deb) Sommers, Goshen, Ind.; Dana (Judy) Sommers, Auckland, New Zealand; Steve Sommers, Kent (Kathy) Sommers, both of New Paris; daughters: Deb (C.J.) Bender, Milford, Ind.; Anita (Bob) Stutzman, Syracuse, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; brothers: Wayne Sommers, Goshen; Byron (Viola) Sommers, Kokomo; and sisters: Miriam (Pete) Bontrager, Kokomo; Darlene (Wayne) Miller, Bunker Hill, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Lois Martin; and an infant brother: Dale Leon Sommers.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 12, at Living Gospel Church. Private family burial will be in New Paris Cemetery.
