Mantie L. Furnas, 60, of rural Atwood, Ind., passes away Friday evening, March 28, 2014, at her home.

She was born Aug. 12, 1953, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Lonnie Vincent and Pearl Mae (Halcomb) Collier. In 1960 her family moved to Shelbyville, Ind., and in 1963 to Columbia City, Ind.. She graduated from Larwill High School.

On May 31, 1986, she was united in marriage to Donald W. Furnas. They have always made their home in rural Atwood.

She was employed at S & L Truck Stop for 13 years, Dana PTG for three years, Bob Evans in Warsaw for three years and in Walmart in Warsaw for two years.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Atwood and formerly Eagles #1906 Auxiliary.

Mantie is survived by her husband: Donald; three children: Joseph P. Woods, Larwill, Ind.; Ellen Leota (Daniel) Yocum, Warsaw, Ind.; and Tasha Clark, Warsaw; three step children: Phillip (Stephanie) Furnas, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Malinda Furnas and Robert Furnas, both of Akron, Ind.; nine grandchildren; five brothers: Paul L. Maggard, Eolia, Ky.; Dewey Edward Collier, Beattyville, Ky.; Wallace Collier, Harold Collier and Rick Collier, all of Columbia City; two sisters: Stacy M. Dear and Sandra Kneller, both of Columbia City; and a foster sister: Kathi McKinney, Larwill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her foster mom: Dorothy King; three brothers: Timothy R. Maggard, Daniel B. Maggard and Roger W. Collier; and a sister: Janice Marie Maggard.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be in South Park Cemetery.
