Second Man Charged In Home Invasion

Formal charges against a second man were filed Tuesday in Elkhart County for a Nov. 4 home invasion robbery in New Paris.
Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis T. Hill says Jeffery Hunt, 25, of Winona Lake, is officially charged with Class A felony charges of burglary resulting in bodily injury and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, and Class B felony counts of criminal confinement with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Hunt is the son of Jeffrey Ramon Hill, 43, also of Winona Lake, who was charged with the same crimes last week. (See related)
Elkhart County officials allege that the father and son team forced their way into the New Paris home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald B. Neer at about 9:40 p.m. on the night of Nov. 4. During the incident, Donald Neer, 82, was struck with what police now say was a tire iron. Neer was hospitalized with a broken neck.
Due to his criminal history, Hill is also being charged as a habitual criminal offender. The prosecutor said that could result in an additional sanction on top of any sentence he would receive.
Hill is scheduled to have his initial hearing in Elkhart Circuit Court on Thursday. Each Class A felony is punishable by up to 50 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
Hill’s bond has been set at $2 million.
Jeffery Hunt’s bond will be set upon a finding of probable cause for the alleged charges by the judge of the Elkhart County Circuit Court. An arrest warrant has been issued for Hunt.
