James PaxtonJames R. “Jim” Paxton, 91, Silver Lake, died at 10:06 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.

He was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Talma to Russell and Jessie (Landis) Paxton.

He married Katherine Snyder on June 14, 1941, in Warsaw. She survives.

Jim was a farmer for many years. Not only did he farm he also drove a semi delivery truck for Sonoco Products Company of Akron.

He served his country in World War II in the U.S. Navy.

Jim was a lifetime resident of Akron/Silver Lake areas. He was a long-time member of the Silver Creek Church of God of Silver Lake where he was very faithful. He enjoyed the land not only as a farmer but as a gardener.

In addition to his wife, Katherine Paxton – Silver Lake, survivors include his son, Phil and wife Suzy Paxton, Sevierville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Brent and wife Lisa Paxton, Lichelle and husband Josh Parker, and Kevin and wife Brittany Paxton; eight great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Ed Paxton, Bud and wife Phyllis Paxton, and Larry and wife Pat Paxton,  all of Rochester.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Neva, Charlotte, Edna, Bonnie, and Freda; and one brother Harold.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, at Silver Creek Church of God, 6504 W. CR 1300S, Silver Lake. Pastor Tom Craig will officiate.

Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, Silver Lake.
