Glenn D. Butler, 91, of Leesburg, Ind., passed away at 1:33 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Grace Village Healthcare in Winona Lake, Ind.
He was born on Jan. 17, 1923, in Elkhart, Ind., to William F. and Bessie F. (Fultz) Butler.
He was a lifetime northern Indiana resident, graduated in 1943 from Elkhart High School and attended Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Army Air Corp as a bomber pilot. He continued to fly as a fighter pilot until 1972 for the 122nd Fighter Wing of the Indiana Air National Guard.
On Aug. 8, 1947, in California on the “Bride and Groom” radio program, he married Shirley J. Black, who preceded him on Jan. 20, 2012. He retired in 1992 from Fairmont Homes as a warranty repair worker. He was a pilot for several small corporations.
He was a member of the North Webster Church of God and American Legion Post #253 in North Webster.
He is survived by a daughter: Sandy (Jim) Harris, North Webster; a son: Gary (Connie) Butler, Goshen, Ind.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents, wife, three sisters and four brothers.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, March 24, at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500 North, North Webster. Services will follow at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Boyer of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post # 253.
