Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies investigating two separate accidents near Syracuse Wednesday afternoon, say driver inattention was the cause in both crashes.
According to a police report, Stephen Phillips, 22, of Syracuse, was driving south on SR 13 near CR 650 East when he told police he looked down for a second “and the next thing he knew, he was off of the right side of the roadway.”
Phillips truck overturned along the state highway causing about $10,000 in damages. Phillips complained of general pain.
Just minutes later, another accident occurred in the same location when Richard Hagan, 51, of Pierceton, was driving past the first crash and drove into the rear of another vehicle, driven by Pamela Scherer, 56, Syracuse. Damages in that accident were estimated at $2,500.
