Berniece Rogena “Bernie” (Baker) Goodin, 91, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was born April 6, 1922, in Allen County, Ind., to Arthur R. and Dessie (Tonkel) Opliger.
Her first marriage was to Cecil Andrew Baker on Oct. 20, 1941, in Fort Wayne, Ind. Her second marriage was to Jim Goodin in the summer of 1972, Angola, Ind.
Throughout much of her life and during the growing up years of her children, she and Cecil lived in the New Haven and the Lake Gage area until his death. Then she and her second husband, Jim, moved from Lake Gage to Snow Lake, Fort Wayne and Auburn. After Jim passed away, Berniece moved to Warsaw where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law until her move to Golden Years Homestead in 2009.
She was a busy homemaker. During the many years of selling Avon she made lots of friends because of her wonderful smile and sweet disposition. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and gardening and was a seamstress. She loved sunshine and boating and music was a huge part of her life. Over the years she attended New Haven United Methodist Church, Waterloo United Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church.
Berniece is survived by a son: Nickey (Jo) Baker, Belton, Texas; three daughters: Sherry (Glen) Yoder, Warsaw; Carol (Gene) Bosworth, Angola, Ind.; and Lana (Mike) Anderson, New Haven, Ind.; two sisters: Vera (Donald) Reiter, Leo, Ind.; and Lorraine Pearsall, Brevard, N.C.; a stepson: Kim (Joyce) Goodin, Fort Wayne, Ind.; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband: Cecil Baker; her second husband: James Goodin; a son: Kenton Keith Baker; and a brother: Howard Arthur Opliger.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw. The funeral will follow at 4 p.m. Sunday in the church with Pastor David Hummel. Burial will follow in Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, Ind.
