photoJuanita M. Byrer, 94, longtime resident of Bourbon, Ind., passed away at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014.

She was born Sept. 8, 1919, to Artie Ray Seymour and Eunice Evelyn (Deacon) Seymour in Bourbon. Juanita was a graduate of Bourbon High School, class of 1938. She married her high school sweetheart, Warren D. (Ham) Byrer on Aug. 14, 1938. He preceded her in death.

For many years, Juanita was an active member of The Country Church of Bourbon. She had a beautiful singing voice and as a teenager was asked to sing on a radio station but because of the depression that opportunity was delayed. She sang at many weddings and events. She and Han sang with Clyde (Jake) Berger and his wife Wilma in a quartet. They were called the “Hamberger Quartet”. Juanita was a homemaker and always worked alongside Ham on the farm. She was a great mother and grandmother, she will always be remembered by her family.

She is survived by two daughters: Judy Rae (Roy) Gallinger, Bourbon; Sally Kay (Jim) Fawley, Bourbon; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister: Iris Smith, Plymouth, Ind.; and a half-aunt: Kathryn Martin, Mishawaka, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and an infant sister.

You are invited to share memories with the family from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at The Country Church, located 2 miles north of Bourbon at the corner of 331 and 9B Road. Funeral services will follow the visitation and will be officiated by Reverend David Gould, pastor of The Country Church. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home
