John M. Handis, 86, of Glendale, Ariz., and formerly of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 6:05 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, in HOV Thunderbird, Glendale.
On July 17, 1927, he was born in Johnstown, Pa., to Mike and Catherine (Karitas) Handis. He was united in marriage to Joan E. Knepper on July 5, 1980, in Warsaw. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2012.
John served in the U.S. Army from 1950 – 1952. He was owner of Handis Studios where he was a commercial artist in advertising. His expertise was in drawing and painting signs.
He is survived by a daughter: Michelle Kennedy, Tucson, Ariz.; three sons: James Handis, Glendale, Ariz.; Jerry (Pam) Koehlinger, Warsaw; Jim Koehlinger, Warsaw; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be privately held with Pastor Bob Jarboe officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
