Dad outside innEdward Owen Fox, MD, 82, passed away at 5:53 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, in Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake, Ind., after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Worcester, Mass. He attended the college of the Holy Cross and, after graduating summa cum laude with a degree in Classics, he attended the Yale School of Medicine where he served as a Fellow in the Department of Microbiology and an Investigator in the Howard Hughes Medical Research Institute.

Dr. Fox completed his internship at the Bellevue Hospital in New York City before serving as a resident in pathology at University of Arkansas where he joined Dr. Hans Schlumberger in research of malignant pituitary tumor.  Dr. Fox continued this research at Harvard Medical School through a grant from the American Cancer Institute. In 1996, he was awarded the Chairman’s Award from the Warren County chapter of the American Cancer Society for his work in the diagnosis and assessment of the prognosis of tumors and cancers.

After a career that included work at the Peter Bent Brigham (MA), Franklin County Hospital (MA) and the Hackettstown Community Hospital (NJ), Dr. Fox retired in 1996 and moved to Warsaw, Ind., where he enjoyed the quiet beauty of Winona Lake with his wife, Janice Ann (Lambert) Fox.

Dr. Fox is survived by his wife; his two daughters: Leslie Fox Farrington, Los Gatos, Calif.; and Clare Fox Ringwall, Acton, Mass.; his brother: Thomas R. Fox, Silver Spring, Md.; and his grandchildren: Dana Fox Farrington, Clare Julia Farrington, Owen Fox Ringwall, Robert William Ringwall and Joseph Edward McGinley; his step children: Judy Mollenhour, Julie McGinley and Bret Mollenhour.

He was preceded in death by a son: Edward Owen Fox Jr.; and a brother: James H. Fox.
