Hazel C. Fiandt, 84, of Columbia City, Ind., died at 2:58 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, in the emergency room of Parkview Whitley Hospital where she was transported earlier.
She was born March 17, 1929, in Elk City, Okla., a daughter of Price and Josie (Young) Taulbee. As a young girl, her family moved to Huntertown, Ind., and later Churubusco, Ind.. She graduated from Churubusco High School. In 1968 she moved to Columbia City.
A dining room supervisor and hostess, she was employed at 30 Club for 10 years, The Alley for 10 years and Tippecanoe Country Club in Leesburg, Ind., from 1985 until 1995.
On Jan. 8, 1985, she was united in marriage to Hugh D. Fiandt. They made their home at Lake Tippecanoe and then Florida for two years before moving to their home east of Warsaw in 2000. Mr. Fiandt died Dec. 15, 2009. Hazel moved into Columbia City in July 2010.
Surviving relatives include two sons: Donald (Sheila) Jetmore and Timothy Jetmore, both of Columbia City; four step children: David (Beverly) Fiandt, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Don (Connie) Fiandt, Fort Wayne; Debbie (Jack) Rodenbeck, Fremont, Ind.; and Doug (Heather) Fiandt, Warsaw; 14 grandchildren: Channing, Erin, Beth, Julie, Hap, Justin, Damon, Abby, Cecelia, Stacie, David, Cole, Mitchell and Grant; 13 great-grandchildren: Arrow, Ben, Autumn, Jensen, Molly, Sydni, Jacob, Andy, Kai, Sydney, Maya, Caden and Lillyan; and a brother: Price Taulbee Jr., Columbia City.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Paula Beyer; a grandson: Andrew Jetmore; five brothers: J.T. Taulbee, Harold Taulbee, Lewis Taulbee, Paul “Pete” Taulbee and Sam Taulbee; and a sister: Betty Jackson.
Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. The burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery.
