Sammie Gibson, 80, of Warsaw, Ind., and formerly Scottsburg, Ind., passed away at 4:01 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
On March 29, 1933, he was born in Floyd County, Ky., to Richard and Aggie (Poe) Gibson. He was united in marriage to Edna Gibson, who preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 2008.
He had lived most of his life in Warsaw until moving to Scottsburg in 1982. He worked for Dalton Foundry and Dalton Inc., Warsaw, then he retired from Morgan Cannery, Austin, Ind. Sammie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.
He is survived by six children: Carol Gibson (Jim) Savage, Warsaw; Larry (Cheryl Jean) Gibson, Claypool, Ind.; Donald (Cheryl Jo) Gibson, Knoxville, Tenn.; Samantha Gibson Rogers, Silver Lake, Ind.; Kent Gault, Bloomington, Ind.; and Dawn Gault (Leonard) Gagnon, Silver Lake; four sisters: Betty (Pete) Zimmerman, Columbia City, Ind.; Becky (Gary) Krotke, Laketon, Ind.; Joyce (Carl) Arnett, Warsaw; and Dottie (Bill) Teeter, North Manchester, Ind.; one brother: Charlie (Renee) Gibson, Warsaw; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Janie Presley; and three brothers: Richard Gibson Jr., Jim Gibson and Arnold Gibson.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, in Scottsburg Cemetery, Scottsburg with military honors by the Crothersville American Legion.
