WARSAW – The Warsaw volleyball team defended its’ home court in fine fashion Saturday.

The Tigers continued their recent run of success by winning the championship of their own invitational.

Warsaw capped a perfect 4-0 performance in the event by beating Class 2-A No. 6 Southwood 25-21, 25-16 in the championship match.

The Tigers, who have won nine of their last 10 matches since going to a 6-2 offense, won its Black Pool with wins over Muncie Burris 25-17, 25-20, Prairie Heights 25-9, 25-14 and Lafayette Jefferson 25-20, 25-14.

Burris beat Fort Wayne Luers in the third place match, while Prairie Heights topped Fort Wayne North for fifth place and Lafayette Jefferson stopped Fort Wayne Canterbury for seventh place.

Southwood won its Orange Pool with victories over Canterbury, Luers and North.

Junior Katie Voelz led the way for Warsaw, which improves to 16-5 on the season. The middle blocker was named MVP of the Black Pool.

Voelz had a team-high 32 kills on the day to go with five aces and seven blocks.

Senior Laura Craig also had a strong day for coach Mike Howard’s squad. Craig had a team-high 25 digs and was second with 25 kills to go with three aces in the four wins.

Megan Chauncey totaled 64 assists and Cassie Hoag had 20 for the Tigers. Hoag had three aces. Emily Poe had 24 digs and 16 kills, Jordyn Lindeman seven blocks and Peyton Adamiec 24 digs.

Lexi Bridener of Southwood earned MVP honors in the Orange Pool.

Warsaw plays at conference foe NorthWood Thursday. The Tigers are 3-2 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
