Fitton, Betty obit photoBetty Jane Fitton, 89, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 11:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne, Ind.

She was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Ind., where she was a 1942 graduate of Syracuse High School, Syracuse, Ind. Betty worked for Penn Electric in Fort Wayne, Ind., until returning to Syracuse where she worked as a telephone operator. After moving to Warsaw she worked at Kimble Glass, Little Crow Foods and Zimmer Inc. She loved to cook, needle-point, knit, read and go shopping. From 1978 until 2012 she spent the winter seasons in Phoenix, Ariz.

She was born on March 8, 1924, in Syracuse to John Floyd Gordy and Carrie Carene (Smith) Gordy. On Oct. 26, 1946, in Syracuse, she was married to Robert Lee Fitton, who preceded her in death on July 13, 2010.

She is survived by two daughters: Jane Volker, Phoenix, Ariz.; Lee Ann (Keith) Lafountain, Warsaw; two grandchildren: Jill Volker, Phoenix, Ariz.; Nathan Lafountain, Warsaw; great-granddaughter: Kaedence Zellmer, Warsaw; and her sister: Helen Jones, Mishawaka, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son: Jerry; a brother: John; and her sister: Martha.

Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Rd., Warsaw. Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the funeral home and officiated by Pastor Gary Boschain. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
