Gladys “Joan” Lutes, 86, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
She was born to Alfonzo Ruse and Iris (Luckenbill) Ruse-Fitzgerald on Feb. 14, 1927, in Warsaw.
She was united in marriage to John W. Lutes on Aug. 3, 1946. He preceded her on Jan. 13, 1991. She worked at Atwood Elementary School in the cafeteria. She also worked for the Atwood Café. She was a lifetime resident of Warsaw and a member of the Atwood Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Atwood, Ind.
She is survived by her two sons: Michael (Carolyn) Lutes, Warsaw; and Chris (Janet) Lutes, Winfield, Ill.; grandchildren: Laura (David) Hale; Reneé (Rob) Parker and Joshua (Stephanie) Lutes, all of Warsaw; Jeremiah Lutes, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Malachi Lutes, Winfield, Ill.; great-grandchildren: Samantha and Courtney Hale, Trenton and Kiersten Parker; Ella, Lila and Owen Lutes; brothers: George Fitzgerald, Massachusetts; Bernard Fitzgerald, South Carolina; Gerald (Jeanette) Fitzgerald, Georgia; Jim Fitzgerald, Ohio; Tom (Sue) Fitzgerald, Michigan; and Walter (Bev) Ruse, South Whitley, Ind.; a sister: Sheila Laing, Logansport, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the funeral home with Pastor Stormy Scherer-Berry officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
