An Indianapolis police officer who was a native of Nappanee, was killed this morning in the line of duty. The Marion County Coroner’s Office says Rod Bradway, 41, was shot and killed after he entered into an apartment on the city’s northwest side when he heard a woman screaming.

Bradway, a 1991 graduate of Northwood High School, leaves behind his wife and two teen children.

Bradway was a five year veteran of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and was recently awarded that Police Department’s Medal of Bravery.

The suspect in the shooting, Steven Byrdo, 24, was also killed.
