Howdeshell Rally Lifts Triton

images copyELKHART –  Dean Howdeshell wasn’t about to let his Triton tennis team lose at Jimtown Wednesday.

Howdeshell rallied for a thrilling win at No. 1 singles to give the Trojans a 3-2 win over the host Jimmies in Northern State Conference play.

Howdeshell lost his first set 6-3 to Mikey Pawlak before tying the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. Pawlak led 4-0 in the third and deciding set before senior Howdeshell rallied for a 7-6 (7-1) win to give Triton the team victory.

The Trojans improved to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the NSC with their third league win in three days.

Triton also got a strong performance from both of its doubles team in the win Wednesday.

Lucas Shafer and Darrin Harrell paired for a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles for the Trojans. The No. 2 doubles duo of Jake Oldham and Austin Sellers also won 6-4, 6-4 for coach Al Peckham’s team.

Jimtown drops to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in the NSC.

Triton won the junior varsity competition 3-1 to improve to 8-3 on the season.

The Trojans will compete Saturday in the Merrillville Invitational.
