Warriors Earn Another NLC Tie

For the second time in as many matches, the Wawasee Warriors walked off the pitch tied with a Northern Lakes Conference opponent.

Threes were wild for the now 3-3-3 boys soccer team after tying Elkhart Memorial 3-3 Saturday morning in Syracuse. Rasmus Rich, Carter Jones and Fernando Camargo all had goals for the Warriors, which were actually outshot 7-5 by the Chargers.

The downside of the match was a red card drawn by Ricardo Camargo, who will have to sit out Wednesday’s match at Columbia City.

“It was disappointing we couldn’t get the result,” stated Wawasee head coach Jordan Sharp. “I saw plenty of positives and, unfortunately, a lot of negative.”

The junior varsity for Wawasee came up on the short end of a 2-1 loss to Memorial.

Offense Still Ice Cold

Wawasee continues to ford a decent defense against quality girls soccer opponents, but cannot find the net. The case was again evident in a 3-0 loss to visiting Culver Academy Saturday afternoon.

The Academy registered all three of its goals in the final 20 minutes of the first half to account for all of the scoring in the contest. Wawasee remains without a goal in its last seven matches and just one on the season, producing an 0-9 record to date.

“We did not execute the fundamentals well enough in the first half and it cost us,” said Wawasee head coach Doug Heinisch. “Too many missed traps and not enough focus on passing. A good effort in the second half, we did not give up.”

Wawasee will get back at it Monday with a home date with Fort Wayne Concordia.

Concord Footballers Fly Again

Concord continued its torrid play against Wawasee, posting a 37-6 win Saturday morning in Dunlap.

Wawasee’s lone score came on a rushing score by Mylon Betts, who rushed for 80 yards on the day. Despite the lopsided score, the Warriors defense did some things led by three tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery by Austin Pearish. Ben Moore forced a fumble, Cameron Adams recovered a fumble and Jeff Bartman blocked a field goal in the effort.

“The score doesn’t indicate how hard our kids played,” said Wawasee JV coach Brent Brekeypile. “We just need to cut down on the mistakes and keep getting better.”

The Warriors (1-3) will host NorthWood next Saturday morning.
