Emergency personnel were called at about 2:45 p.m. Thursday to a three vehicle accident at U.S. 30 and SR 13, Pierceton.

Pierceton Police investigated the crash that was caused when a van, driven by Terry Jordan, 64, of Warsaw, was eastbound on U.S. 30. Jordan told police several semis were in the lane next to him and he was not able to see the traffic light turn red. He proceeded into the intersection where he struck a northbound car, driven by Ursula Patel, 47, of Pierceton. Patel said she hesitated briefly when the green arrow lit, giving her the right of way to turn west onto the highway.

Jordan’s van collided with the driver’s side of Patel’s vehicle, forcing the car into a truck, driven by Matthew Kinion, 23, also of Pierceton. Kinion was northbound on SR 13 and in the intersection when he was hit.

Patel was treated for a minor head injury. Her 19-year-old daughter, Shana Patel, complained of back pain. A passenger in Kinion’s truck, Miranda Kinion, 21, complained of pain but refused medical attention. Neither Matthew Kinion or Jordan were hurt.

Damages were estimated at up to $50,000.

Traffic in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 30 was backed up for about a half mile as a result of the accident.
