WARSAW – The Warsaw boys tennis team continues to control things in the Northern Lakes Conference.

The Tigers, who won the league championship a year ago, nipped Northridge 3-2 Tuesday in a key NLC match at WCHS.

Warsaw got wins from Will Petro and Evan Miller in singles play and from Kyle Wettschurack and Nic Jansen on the doubles court.

Petro prevailed 6-3, 6-1 over Austin Schmidt at No. 2 singles for the hosts.

Miller dominated his match at No. 3 singles by beating Aadarsh Patel 6-1, 6-0 for the Tigers.

The No. 1 doubles team of Wettschurack and Jansen disposed of Clay Schnell and Ted Field 6-3, 6-1.

Northridge’s Josh Garfein rallied to beat Sam Rice 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. The Raiders also took the No. 2 doubles match as Landon Arnold and Sam Hoover defeated Christopher Herendeen and Cole Baker 6-1, 6-2.

Warsaw improves to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in NLC action. The Tigers, who went 7-0 in league play a year ago, still have conference matches left with Wawasee, NorthWood and Concord before the NLC Tournament.

Warsaw won the junior varsity match 6-0 Tuesday. Winners in singles play for the Tigers were Andrew Gauger, Ryan Wettschurack, Chris Stichter and Nikos Schlitt. The Warsaw doubles teams of Tim Rata and Justin Stout and David Homme and Hudson Snyder were also victorious.

Warsaw hosts Fort Wayne Canterbury Thursday. The Tigers have their own tournament Saturday and entertain Penn Monday in a makeup match.
