WARSAW – Brooklyn Jackson’s strong foot provided the scoring thunder again on Saturday for her Warsaw girls’ soccer team.

The Warsaw junior drilled home a pair of goals as the Tigers played to a 2-2 stalemate versus Mishawaka Marian at WCHS.

The game pitting the Tigers versus the No. 12 and defending state champion Knights was delayed in the final half by lightning.

Jackson gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute. Danielle Hutcherson assisted on the score for the Tigers.

Marian, which finished 18-4-2 to win the Class 1-A state title in 2012, tied the game on a goal by Libby Prater.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead with just 13 minutes left in the contest as Jackson scored off a free kick. Jackson now has nine goals on the season through the first five games for the Tigers.

Marian earned the 2-2 tie with just eight minutes remaining when Maggie Hartnagel found the net.

Warsaw had 10 shots in the game, including seven on goal. Standout senior keeper Abby Schue had 10 saves for the Tigers.

First-year Warsaw coach Peter Lucht cited the play of Jackson, Hutcherson and freshman Rachel McClelland.

Warsaw, now 2-2-1, plays at conference foe Goshen Tuesday.
