Miriam L. Ridings, 90, of Syracuse, Ind., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse.

Miriam was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Ossian, Ind., to the late Glenn F. and Maude (Weirich) Jackson.  She married Jackson D. Ridings on Dec. 6, 1941, who preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1990.

Miriam graduated from South Side High School, Fort Wayne, Ind. She and Jack moved to Syracuse in 1949. Miriam was assistant librarian at the Syracuse Public Library, payroll clerk at Sea Nymph Boat Co. and later worked at Turkey Creek Township Assessor’s office, retiring after 15 years as first deputy assessor.

She was an active supporter of Kosciusko County Republican committee, being recognized for her outstanding service. Miriam was a past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and was a volunteer at St. Andrews United Methodist Church Thrift Shop for many years, finally retiring in the summer of 2013.

Miriam is survived by her four children: Jay (Paula) Ridings, Cromwell, Ind.; Dave Ridings Sr., Angola, Ind.; Judy (Ken) Wagner, North Webster, Ind.; and Peggy (Mark) Donoho, North Liberty, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law: Jim (Jane) Ridings, Madeira Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, in the funeral home with pastors Brad Cox and Ed Beedle officiating. Private burial will take place at the Syracuse Cemetery.
