Norma Jean ‘Jeanie’ Clauss, 83, of Bourbon, Ind., passed away at 8:39 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2013, in Normal, Ill., after a courageous battle with lymphoma.

Jeanie was born in 1930 in Rochester, Ind., to Dean Nellans, Sr. and Ethel Tucker Nellans. She graduated from Mentone High School in 1949. Following high school Jeanie graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne, Ind. On March 23, 1952, she married Glenn ‘Bud’ Clauss. Together they raised four children and were lifetime farmers with Clauss Farms, Inc.

Her mother Ethel Nellans was a charter member of the Mentone Anthony Nigo chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), of which Jeanie was also a dedicated member. Jeanie was always running from field to field and was ‘meals on wheels’ during the busy times. She kept busy gardening, canning fruit and freezing vegetables. She loved her snapdragons and petunias, even the volunteers. Every day she diligently filled her hummingbird feeders. In the winters, sje enjoyed being a snowbird in Avon Park, Fla. Jeanie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jeanie also enjoyed being with her many friends in the evenings to enjoy euchre, dominos and a variety of delicious snacks.

She is survived by her sister: Juanita Paulus, Rochester, Ind.; a brother: Dean Nellans, Jr., Mentone, Ind.; daughter: Michelle (Jeff) Bormet, Bourbon, Ind.; sons: Bruce (Bobbie) Clauss, Bourbon; Mark (Janel) Clauss, Bloomington, Ill.; five grandchildren: Brad, Branden, Cayla, Courtney and Mara; and two great-grandchildren: Mallory and Brysen.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sister: Geraldine Smith; infant son: David; and her daughter: Linda.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Country Church north of Bourbon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at the church and the burial will follow at the Sandridge Cemetery approximately 2 miles from the church. Arrangements are being handled by Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Country Church, where Jeanie attended for more than the last 40 years, or the national Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
