Mangas, Defense Rule For JV Tigers

images-7COLUMBIA CITY – The Warsaw junior varsity football team was clicking on all cylinders Saturday in its season opener.

Jake Mangas led the way with four touchdown passes as the JV Tigers crushed Columbia City 30-0.

Tiger quarterback Mangas passed for 212 yards in the lopsided victory. Brock Riley had a pair of touchdown receptions for Warsaw, while Thomas Hickerson and Tyler Packard each had one.

Andrew Mevis booted a 36-yard field goal for the winners.

The Tiger defense not only pitched a shutout, but came up with five takeaways. Mario Flores and Michael Anderson each had an interception and the trio of Jack Higgins, Alec Haines and Landon Perry each added a fumble recovery for the Tigers.

Higgins paced the defense with eight tackles. Dylan Childers had five stops and Packard four.

Warsaw (1-0) hosts East Noble Aug. 31 at 10 a.m.
