OI761930226_HeadshotAlbertis J. Mickem, 78, of Leesburg, Ind., passed away at 2:05 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at his home.

He was born Feb. 15, 1935, in Middlebury, Ind., to Melvin V. and Evelyn (Nettrouer) Mickem.

He attended Middlebury Public Schools and moved to the local area in 1951 from Elkhart, Ind. On Oct. 3, 1958, in Milford, Ind., he married Lulu M. Fowler, who preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 1988. He was formerly employed at Leesburg Foundry for 16 years.

He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge in Columbia City and enjoyed playing bingo at the Knights of Columbus in Syracuse.

He is survived by two daughters: Karen Mickem, Warsaw, Ind.; and Tammy (Drew) Cochran, Warsaw; three sons: Harold Mickem, Pierceton, Ind.; Bert Mickem, Syracuse, Ind.; and Kevin (Rejeana) Mickem, Leesburg; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four half brothers: Don Weaver, Elkhart, Ind.; Stan (Joyce) Weaver, Goshen, Ind.; Keith (Donna) Weaver, Milford, Ind.; and Doug Mickem, Syracuse.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and half brother: Larry Mickem.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at the funeral home with Pastor Harlan Steffen of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel and Pastor Mike Kelley of the Word of Truth Ministries in Milford officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier, Ind.
