Steve Carman, 51, of Barbee Lake, North Webster, Ind., passed away at 9:58 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, in his residence.
He was born Feb. 23, 1962, in Bloomington, Ind., to Dr. Richard L. Carman and then wife Sandra. He moved with his parents to Warsaw, Ind., in August of that year.
He attended grade school in Warsaw but wanted to and did attend Culver Military Academy for high school until his senior year when he returned to Warsaw and graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1980. He was an excellent student.
During summers of his youth he mowed several yards in the Country Club Drive area. He also installed, maintained, and removed piers on the lakes in Warsaw. By 1989 he formed Carman Pier in the North Webster.
He was a member of AA and very active in that organization, including visiting jail inmates on Sunday evenings and counseling them on ways to improve their lives and ministering to them on accepting Christ. He enjoyed mentoring to grade school children who struggled in the classroom and attempted to help them with their ability to learn. They looked forward to his visits.
His hobbies included golf, camping with his daughters and river rafting in Tennessee.
Steve is survived by his father and stepmother: Dr. Richard L. (Phyllis) Carman, Warsaw; two daughters: Lilly and Molly; and a half-brother: Chris.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Sandra; both paternal and maternal sets of grandparents; and a brother: Tim.
Visitation is planned for 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, in the North Webster Church of God, North Webster. Pastors Erik Ohman and Jeff Boyer will conduct the services. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
