Doris M. Berghorn, 91, formerly of Nappanee, Ind., passed away at 1:25 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa, Ind., after a short illness.

She was born April 24, 1922, in Manhattan, N.Y., to the late Albert and Sophie (Puls) Stellmann. On May 9, 1948, she married Richard Berghorn. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Berghorn moved to Nappanee in 1978 from New York. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. While in New York, she had been a telephone operator. She had worked at LuAnn Nursing Home for 10 years as a Qualified Medical Assistant.

Mrs. Berghorn is survived by her daughter-in-law: Betty Jean Groves, Milwaukee, Wis.; grandchildren: Richard Berghorn III, Milwaukee; Jason Berghorn, New Jersey; Gina Marie Berghorn, Florida; step-grandchildren: Gina Louise Scafidi, Chicago; Lisa Scafidi, Wisconsin; Maria Scafidi, Wisconsin; and a step-great-grandson: Kevin Kolesari.

She was preceded in death by her son: Richard Berghorn Jr.; and a sister: Nancy Ann Lomax.

Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder, Nappanee. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday Dec. 13, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home. Pastor John Hickey of Goshen Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in Long Island National Cemetery, N.Y.

Memorial contributions may be given to Goshen Trinity Lutheran Church.
