Mary Jeanette Bigler, 83, of Nappanee, Ind., died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Goshen IU Health, after a battle with cancer. She had been a patient there since Saturday.

She was born Oct. 11, 1929, in South Bend to Charley and Wilma Lovetta (Hamsher) Welty. She lived her lifetime in this area. She was a 1947 graduate of Nappanee High School. On Sept. 2, 1951, she married Gerald Eugene Bigler in Nappanee. He preceded in death Sept. 28, 2003.

Mrs. Bigler had been a Telephone Operator and had also worked at State Bank and Metzler Shoes.

She was a member of Nappanee United Methodist Church where she was active in the Rebekah Circle, served on the Communion Committee and volunteered in the Thrift Shop.  She also played in a Bridge Club.

Surviving are her children: Dr. Elaine (Rob) Bigler-Schmeltz, Syracuse, Ind.; Jerry L. (Debra) Bigler, Rockwall, Texas; Ronald J. (Jennifer) Bigler, Colleyville, Texas; seven grandchildren: Heather, Zachary and Jeremy Bigler, Bauer and Aubrey Schmeltz, Maxwell and Camden Bigler; and two great-grandchildren: Ryan and Tyler Bigler.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and for 1 hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Nappanee United Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Davidson will officiate, assisted by Rev. Janet McFall-Brown. Burial will be in Union Center East Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
