Frank Joseph Winters, 74, of North Webster, Ind., passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born on Jan. 2, 1939, in Huntington, W.V., to Mike and Sophie (Kurtz) Winters.
He grew up in West Virginia, attended public school there, and in 1979 received his GED from Wawasee High School. He was a United States Marine and was married on Nov. 1, 1958, in Eastland, W.V., to Janice L. Thompson who survives.
He moved to the North Webster area 49 years ago from West Virginia and retired in 2005 from CMI in Plymouth after 10 years as a truck driver. He was formerly employed at Monsanto in Ligonier, Ind.; Syracuse Rubber, JC Pontoon in North Webster, Flex Steel in New Paris, Ind., and served as a deputy for the North Webster Police Department.
He was a member of the Country Bible Church in North Webster and the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster.
He is survived by his wife: Janice Winters, North Webster; two sons: Frank (Sonia) Winters, North Webster; James Winters, North Webster; five grandchildren: Nicholas Winters, Nichole Helman, Madison Winters, Chase Murphy and Austin Murphy; six great-grandchildren; and one sister: Mary Lee Winters, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Sophie Winters, Annie Simmons and Mary Javis; and four brothers: Mike, Johnny, Nick and Steve Winters.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500 North, North Webster. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, at the funeral home with Pastor Myron Drent of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery with military graveside services by the North Webster American Legion Post 253.
