Kenneth E. Menzie, 73, of Warsaw, Ind., and formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away unexpectedly at 6:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, in the home of his daughter, Darlene.
He was born Dec. 21, 1939, in South Bend to Kenneth and Elsie (Kirkpatrick) Menzie. He graduated from John Adams High School in 1958 and joined the U.S. Air Force.
His first marriage was to Joyce Barson on June 4, 1960, in South Bend. He later married Nancy VanDenHandel in August 1990, also in South Bend.
Kenneth lived for the past 4 years in Warsaw. He worked at Elixir Industries in Elkhart, Ind., for 30 years, retiring in 2007 as shop foreman.
He enjoyed playing golf and watching football and his favorite teams were Notre Dame and Florida State. Kenneth was an avid card player and his rough exterior gave way to a softer heart.
He is survived by a son: Donnie (Judy) Menzie, Mishawaka, Ind.; three daughters: Dianne (Jerry) Szmanda, South Bend, Ind.; Darlene (Jim) Krallman, Warsaw; and Denise (Will) Van Scoyk, South Bend; two sisters: Terri Jo (Art ) Van Laecke, Niles, Mich.; and Marjorie (Mark) Stephenson, Moultrie, Ga.; his mother: Elsie Townsend, Moultrie, Ga.; eight grandchildren: Amber (Chris) Solina, North Webster, Ind.; Matthew (Jessica) Krallman, Mishawaka, Ind.; Jennifer (Adam) Habegger, Warsaw; Andrew Krallman, Warsaw; Kaci Menzie, Mishawaka, Ind.; Tony (Danielle) Evanoff, South Bend; Bryan Evanoff, South Bend; and Austin Szmanda, at home; and eight great-grandchildren: Aric, August, Jordan, Landen, Cameron, Logan, Sienna and Katie.
He was preceded in death by his second wife: Nancy Menzie; and his stepfather: Donald Townsend.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 6, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. The funeral service will follow at noon Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Michael Hontz of Pleasant View Bible Church, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
