2485087a-47d6-4fd3-8c9d-6baa136942ccPolly Ann Finney, 68, of Akron, Ind., passed away at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center of Fort Wayne, Ind., as a result of a fall at her residence Sunday.

She was born on April 13, 1945, in Rochester, Ind., to Paul E. and Emelyn Evelyn (Harter) Fites. On Dec. 26, 1965, at her parents homestead, she was married to Jerry Finney –he survives.

Polly taught at Mentone Elementary School and Tippecanoe Valley Middle School as an Art Instructor. She retired in 2007 after teaching for 39 years. She was a graduate of Akron High School in 1963, and then she attained her Bachelors Degree from Manchester College and her Masters Degree from St. Francis University. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a member of the Kappa Delta Phi of Akron and was on the Akron Carnegie Library Board. She was the past president of the ISTA for Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation. She enjoyed gardening, decorating inside and out, reading, camping, going to all sporting events, bowling, cooking, golfing with her husband and spending time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband; two sons: Tom (Rose) Finney, Greenfield, Ind.; Scott (Shelly) Finney, Akron; grandchildren: Ashley, Sarah and Emmelyn; brother: Tom (Sharon) Fites, Akron; in-laws: John (Janet) Swanson, Winona Lake, Ind.; Donna Mort, North Webster, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Herb Fites.

Visitation will take place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Hartzler Funeral Home in Akron. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the funeral home and will be officiated by Pastor Jeff Sumner. Burial will take place in Akron Cemetery, Akron.
