James Coffey, recording artist, is coming to the Syracuse Public Library at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30. James performs all over the United States and is also known as the train song troubadour. He has won Parents’ Choice Awards for “outstanding contribution toward enriching the lives of American children.” Coffey does Hoosiers proud as he is a graduate from Indiana University and resides in Fort Wayne.

The James Coffey concert is open to all ages and is free. Expect to clap your hands and sing along to a variety of musical styles. This is a special concert to finish the Dig into Reading Summer Program.

Friends Annual Book Sale

Shop the Community Book Sale Thursday and Friday with a stop for books at the library. The doors are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2.

The cost this year is $3 for a bag. Most of the books are from donations that the Friends store when there are too many books to put into the ongoing book sale.

Advice from a Master Gardener

Ellen Longenbaugh, Master Gardener, reminds everyone that there is time for a second planting of green beans, lettuce, carrots and other plants that mature in 6 weeks.

After the plants are finished all the debris should be cleared out of the garden. Fall is a good time to evaluate how well crops did in their location. When planning for next spring’s garden borrow a book from the library about companion planting as some plants may not like their neighbor. The Syracuse Library thanks Jim Carpenter and Ellen Longenbaugh for presenting gardening programs this summer. Reach the library at 574-457-3022 for questions and assistance.
