WARSAW – The NBA is expected to add a second Plumlee to one of its rosters come Thursday night.
Mason Plumlee, who grew up in Warsaw, is an odds-on pick to be drafted sometime in the first round of the NBA Draft.
Plumlee will join his older brother Miles, who was drafted in the first round by the Indiana Pacers in 2012.
Mason Plumlee, like Miles, starred at Duke. The 6-10 forward averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds per game his senior season as the Blue Devils fashioned a 30-6 mark. He earned first-team All-ACC honors and was a second-team All-American.
Plumlee was born in Fort Wayne and grew up in Warsaw, attending WCHS his freshman year. Plumlee then spent his final three high school years at Christ School in Arden, North Carolina. He helped lead Christ School to a 99-8 record his final three years, including three state championships.
Plumlee helped Duke win a national championship in 2010. A two-time Academic All-American, he finished his collegiate career with 1,384 points and 1,085 rebounds.
Plumlee comes from a family rich in basketball history. His father Perky played at Tennessee Tech, while his mother Leslie played at Purdue. His younger brother Marshall was a redshirt freshman at Duke this past season.
Nerlens Noel, a 7-0 center who played just one year at Kentucky, is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick Thursday night by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The draft also features former IU stars Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller, both who opted to leave the Hoosiers after their junior and sophomore years respectively, as well as former Michigan star guard Trey Burke, who played two seasons in Ann Arbor.
The NBA Draft begins at 7 p.m. Thursday in New York City and will be shown on ESPN.
