H. Jean Conner, 85, of Akron, Ind., passed away at 4:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at her residence
She was born Dec. 25, 1927, in Miami County, Ind., to Edwin and Florence (Larson) Feller. On Dec. 1, 1946, she married Harold E. Conner in Santa Fe, Ind. He passed away Sept. 9, 2000.
Jean started out as a bookkeeper for the Farm Bureau Elevator in Santa Fe in the 40’s while she was in high school. After graduating, she was a bookkeeper for various businesses in Akron. Later she served as the Henry Township Trustee from 1983 to 1987. She then began working in the Fulton County License Branch.
In 1989 she began serving on the Henry Township Advisory Board. While on the board she served as town clerk till 1992. In 1995 she became the vice chairman of the Republican Party of Precinct 3. Also in 1995 she complete a term on Akron Town Council and then she ran and was elected to the council in 1996 and completed her term in 2000.
Jean graduated from Butler Township High School in 1945. Jean and her husband were members of the Akron United Methodist Church. She was a past president of the Fulton County Republican Women’s Club. She was a member of the Classic Dance Club of Warsaw, Ind., and the Moose Lodge of Rochester, Ind. She was very proud of her years of public service, her children, as well as her grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter: Judy (Dana) Vaughn, Akron, Ind.; sons: Rod (Angela) Conner, Rochester, Ind.; and Dean Conner, Kankakee, Ill.; four granddaughters: Ashley (Matt) Sutter; Alisha (Jeff) Coby; Leah (Ryan) Boyles; and Shelby Simonsen; step-grandchildren: Leia (David) Poskey and Robert (Kae) Vaughn; four great-grandchildren: Nicholas Sutter, Nathan Sutter, Alexa Sutter, Lilly Sutter, Madeline Coby, Lane Coby and Anthony Vaughn; great-great-grandchildren: Carlie Sutter; a sister: Mary Weller, Kokomo, Ind.; brothers: Larry (Carolie) Feller, Peru, Ind.; and Danny (Janice) Feller, Bunker Hill, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son: John E. Conner; and a daughter-in-law: Lorriane Conner.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, Ind. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor David Eaton. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery, Akron.
