Former Warsaw distance standouts Sarah Ray and Jake Poyner turned in impressive performances Saturday night.

Ray placed first and Poyner was second while competing in the Midwest Distance Festival held at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.

Ray won the two-mile race in a new personal record time of 10:59.37. Her winning mark equals a time of 10:55.55 when converted to the 3,200, Ray’s top race.  Emily Bean, who hails from Louisville, was second in the two-mile with a time of 11:14.50.

Poyner clocked in a new personal record time of 4:09.92 in the one-mile race. His time, which converts to 4:08.47 for the 1,600, was second to winner Jack Keelan of St. Ignatius, who clocked in at 4:07.50.

Ray, who will run at Olivet Nazarene University, placed 11th in the 3,200 with a time of 11:02.66 and 14th in the 1,600 with a time of 5:08.06 at the State Finals on June 1.

Poyner, who is bound to run at Wake Forest, was third in the 1,600 with a time of 4:09.95 and fifth in the 3,200 with a time of 9:14.20 at the State Finals on May 31.

The Midwest Distance Festival attracts many of the top high school runners from throughout the Midwest.
