UPDATE: Rain Changing Memorial Day Events
This morning’s rain showers are prompting changes in Memorial Day events throughout the county.
At Oakwook Cemetery in Warsaw, the ceremony will now be held moved indoors to accommodate the public.
Services will take place beginning at 10:55 a.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel. The annual services will be conducted by John C. Peterson Post No. 49 and James W. Sittler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1126.
The program will have special music by the Kosciusko County Extension Choir. The posting of colors will be done by a combination of both Color Guards. Commander of Post No. 49, Roy Bradbury, will conduct a welcome, followed by an invocation by Chaplain Tom Everett.
Ken Locke of The Salvation Army will provide the Memorial Day address and roll call of deceased veterans will be conducted by Mike Davis and Larry Criswell.
A carry-in dinner will be held at American Legion Post No. 49, Warsaw, following the program. Entertainment will be provided by Mel Mullins.
Parades slated for this morning have also been cancelled. Leesburg, Milford and Pierceton have so far cancelled their parades. No word yet on the following events slated for this morning:
North Webster
Services and a parade begin at 9:30 a.m. at Thorn Cemetery, 9:45 a.m. at Salem Cemetery, and 10 a.m. at Mock Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. at American Legion Post No. 253, and 11:15 a.m. at North Webster Cemetery. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. in downtown North Webster. A flag-raising ceremony will be at noon at the Legion.
Syracuse
A parade will start at 1:30 p.m. After the parade, there will be a ceremony at Syracuse Cemetery.
In Milford, the Kiwanis Club is holding a chicken barbecue at the Milford Community Building. Sales begin at 11 a.m.
Also, in Pierceton a carry-in dinner will still take place at the American Legion Post No. 258. New officers will be installed in a ceremony at 2 p.m.
